But it was too little too late though as England held on to seal a 14-10 win and guaranteeing their place in the 9th place final.

Tries from Callum Williams, Cole Swannack and Morgan Sieniawski in the first half ensured Wales cruised to a 21-5 interval lead.

Wales never looked in danger in the second half as tries by Luke Treharne, Callum Carson and Chris Smith secured the win.

Olympic champions Fiji, however, we waiting in the final pool game and a 38-24 defeat ended last eight hopes for Wales.

Wales now have the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series finale in Los Angeles on 27-28 August to focus on before heading to South Africa for the Rugby World Cup Sevens kicks on 9-11 September in Cape Town.
