DRAGONS TV: HEWITT & FAIRBROTHER ON RECOVERY

23/02/2022

Wing Ashton Hewitt is progressing well in his long-term recovery from his knee injury – and has spoken to Dragons TV about how returning before the end of the season remains his target.

The 28-year-old – injured in the EPCR Challenge Cup with Northampton Saints last April - is back on the field running and increasing the intensity is the next step in his recovery.

Hewitt said: “There is light at the end of the tunnel now. I’m back running, which has been nice, and it’s been great to get out of the gym for a change, and I’m starting to pick up the pace now which is good.”

“If I keep going as I’m going then I should get a few games in before the end of the season and help the boys finish off well.”

Meanwhile, prop Lloyd Fairbrother - recovering from a long-term Achilles injury - is in a similar position to Hewitt and hopeful of a return before the end of the season.

Fairbrother said: “The recovery is going well. It’s been a long journey, but I’m starting to see the light now.

“I’m scrummaging on the machine, lifting heavy weights and just started the final stages of getting back to running.”

“I really want to be back before the end of the season - I think it will be good to get back playing and start preparing then for next season.”

Ahead of the United Rugby Championship clash with Munster, Dragons have also confirmed full back Jordan Williams, centre Jack Dixon and back row duo Lennon Greggains and Ben Fry are close to a return to action and on target to be available for selection in the coming weeks.

Finally, centre Cory Allen is continuing his recovery from a knee injury with no timeframe set on his return.
