Lloyd sets sights on Junior Boks

08/07/2022

Impressive young scrum half Morgan Lloyd is targeting a dream finale to the U20s Six Nations Summer Series - as Wales look to complete a memorable reversal in fortunes.

Four months ago, Wales ended their Six Nations campaign with a defeat at the hands of Italy in Colwyn Bay - a result that consigned them to fifth place in the table.

Fast forward to July and Byron Hayward’s men beat the Azzurri in their own backyard and are now preparing for the final of the Summer Series against South Africa.

Scotland, Georgia and Italy have been swept aside for Wales to book a place in Wednesday’s final with the Junior Boks.

And Lloyd now wants Wales to go into that big game with the unbeaten South Africans with confidence and belief.

“It’s a big game against South Africa,” said Lloyd. “We’re so pleased with where we have got to. We have fronted up as a team.

“Each game we have made it hard for ourselves at times, but we have kept it together.

“We’re all happy with the final pool game. Italy are a good side who hadn’t lost a game, so we’re pleased to beat them this time around after what happened in the Six Nations.

“The forwards fronted up well and go forward ball was much better.

“We held on in the end and it was a good kick from Joe (Hawkins). It was an amazing feeling.

“I was always confident in the boys coming into the tournament,” he added.

“We had a good feeling, we trained well in preparation and felt better than when we went into the Six Nations.”

We’re so pleased with where we have got to... We have fronted up as a team...
