Boss backs Dee to shine after big summer

06/06/2022

Dean Ryan believes hooker Elliot Dee will shine for Dragons next season after a full pre-season and with even more increased competition up front.

The Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan believes 41-times capped Dee and his Wales teammates Ross Moriarty and Aaron Wainwright can profit from a summer off international action.

And he has tipped the arrival of Bradley Roberts from Ulster to fire Dee to greater heights as he bids for a big 2022/23 season ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

Ryan said: “Wayne (Pivac) is keen for Elliot to get a pre-season and we have to remember that some of these guys haven't had a pre-season for a while, we can really utilise that time over the summer.

"We have talked about keeping the things that he is good at and adapting to the things that Wayne wants so that he can get back into the international team.

"There is no doubt that the biggest driver for people improving is competition and Elliot had a great response to the challenge of Taylor (Davies) last season," added Ryan.

"Towards the end of the season was the best I had seen Elliot play in the last two or three years.

"Competition, being fit and having a huge pre-season behind him will give Elliot the chance of being the best version of himself, and there are a number of our guys that will benefit from that."
