Ryan reflects on raw Munster defeat

06/03/2022

Boss Dean Ryan admitted his Dragons had been left 'hurting and raw' after the manner of the heavy defeat to Munster in the United Rugby Championship at Thomond Park.

The home side ran in ten tries on a hugely disappointing night for the Men of Gwent.

And Director of Dragons Rugby Ryan pulled no punches as he gave an honest assessment of the fixture in Limerick.

“I’m incredibly disappointed,” said Ryan. “We were blown off the park and we came second in every area of collision.

“Once that was happening across the first 40 minutes, we got disrupted positionally and the second half wasn’t acceptable.

"I don't think the last 40 minutes is representative of what we are trying to do or what we are trying to be and we have to ask some hard questions about that because we didn’t make it hard enough.

“We pride ourselves on being physical, we pride ourselves on making life difficult. Today we didn’t do that.

“Today was a poor day for us and the players are hurt,” he added.

“There is some stuff there that we don’t recognise as us, but under that amount of pressure people behave in way that we haven’t seen before.

“They are hurt and it’s a raw night for us. In terms of some things that we set out that we wanted to do, we just never got it on the pitch at all.”
