Dragons wait on Basham update

15/10/2022

Head Coach Dai Flanagan admitted Taine Basham looks set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an elbow injury in the derby defeat to Cardiff Rugby.

Basham was forced off just before the interval of the BKT United Rugby Championship clash at the Arms Park.

And Flanagan revealed after that the young back row had gone to hospital to be assessed for a possible dislocation.

“It’s an elbow injury so he has gone to hospital to check,” he said.

“It’s a shame because he has been playing well. I've seen a lot of energy from Taine lately and a load of excitement.

“If Taine is out, we lose a lot of X-Factor, but also, he is growing week by week and day by day in this environment. He seems to be really enjoying his rugby.

“It will be a big loss for us and also for Taine. We will wait to see the severity of it.”

Dragons will also wait to see how centre Sio Tomkinson recovers after coming off at half-time.

“Sio had a bit of a stinger in the shoulder,” added Flanagan.

“We'll see how he recovers this week first. Hopefully not long-term, but it depends on the severity of it.”
