Hanrahan: We need Parade performances on road

10/10/2022

Fly half JJ Hanrahan admitted Dragons would need to be honest in their away day assessment as they strive to transfer Rodney Parade performances on the road.

Dragons were always playing catch-up in Italy after a disappointing first half display at Stadio Monigo against Benetton as they slipped to a 34-14 defeat.

The Men of Gwent have impressed on home soil this season but are yet to register points away and Hanrahan acknowledged that the challenge now was to end a poor away record.

“The challenge for us is to start getting the performances right away from home,” he said.

“We’ve had two good performances at Rodney Parade where we have beaten Munster and got pipped to the post by Sharks.

“The challenge for this group is now understanding what it takes to go on the road and get victories.

“That’s not easy, it takes learning and detail, but we need to be better, look at reviews and be honest with each other.

Reflecting on the game in Treviso, Hanarahan added: “They came out of the blocks quicker than we did and we gave them some early field position in the first half and momentum.

“We were chasing the game and we were a bit flat in the first half. We didn’t match their emotion or intensity.

“In the second half we were a bit better in parts, but overall, the 80-minute performance wasn’t there and we have to be much better.”
