Williams: Confidence building after win

29/10/2022

Try-scoring scrum half Rhodri Williams praised the patient approach adopted by Dragons as they built a score before cutting loose against Zebre Parma on home soil.

Williams grabbed the first of five tries as the Men of Gwent clocked up an impressive 47-7 win over the Italians at Rodney Parade.

The result ensured back-to-back try bonus point wins on home soil.

“Confidence is building. We needed to back up last week’s win (over Ospreys) and it is easy to get up for derbies,” said Williams.

“It is these sorts of games where we need to show up and match them physically.

“We built ourselves into that game. We didn’t try miracle balls or flashy stuff; we slowly built the score.”

On two-try hero David Richards, William was full of praise for the Dragons Academy graduate for taking his opportunity with both hands.

“We’ve nickname him Dangerous Dai for a reason,” smiled Williams.

“He is dangerous in attack, and it was as if he has been playing for years. “It was about doing simple things and that is exactly what Dai did. He took his tries well.”

Dragons have taken three wins from four at home – and were edged out by a solitary point by the Cell C Sharks in the defeat.

“We have finished the first block well. We have spoken about our home form and really, we should have been unbeaten,” added Williams.

“The Sharks game was very disappointing. But we are building with games like this.

“Something that is really pleasing for me isn’t the 47 points. It’s the seven and we are disappointed about leaking that try.

“We could have easily let them back in to get 20 or 30 points. But we stuck to it.”
