Dragons will not rush Bertranou return

28/09/2022

Head Coach Dai Flanagan has praised the return of ‘super competitive’ scrum half Gonzalo Bertranou to the club this week.

Bertranou jetted back into Wales at the start of the week and was back at the club’s Ystrad Mynach training HQ today (Wednesday) for sessions with the new-look squad.

Flanagan has revealed how the 28-year-old – who recently featured in five Rugby Championship games, including wins over New Zealand and Australia – has kept in touch with the squad.

But with Cell C Sharks at Rodney Parade this Saturday evening (kick-off 7.35pm), Flanagan has vowed not to rush his star nine back.

“I actually met him for the first time on Tuesday for a coffee,” revealed Flanagan.

“I have had lots of whatsapps and good luck messages back and forth.

“He stayed in connection with the group throughout, he's been tracking our performances and results and he is a good individual.

“Gonzalo has done his first session back with us. He is super keen, super competitive and people like that you want around the facility.

“But he has still got to catch up on all the subtle changes or speed of stuff. Gonzalo’s opportunity will come when he is ready.”
