O'Brien: It can’t be a one-off

26/09/2022

Full back Angus O’Brien has urged Dragons to back up the home opening victory against Munster when they face the might of the Cell C Sharks on Saturday night at Rodney Parade (kick-off 7.35pm).

Dragons started the home campaign in sensational style as they upset Munster 23-17 with a deserved BKT United Rugby Championship success.

South African giants the Sharks now arrive in Newport for a first-ever visit on Saturday.

And for man-of-the-match O’Brien the focus immediately switches to the task in hand.

“This can’t be a one-off. We need to build on that performance and build on that victory,” he stated.

“We are straight back to work on Monday, and we have got to put another big performance in against the Sharks.

“We knew we would have a tough battle (against Munster) and that is what we got,” he added.

“We defended unbelievably and there were some courageous defensive sets to see the game out.

“We were bitterly disappointed with how we performed at Edinburgh, we know it wasn’t good enough, but we had an honest week and I’m so proud that we responded the right way.”

O’Brien also thanked the vociferous home support who welcomed him back for his second spell at the club.

“It was like a second home debut for me,” he smiled.

“The fans are always great, they have always been great to me, and I loved being out there.

“I’m a lot older now, a lot more experienced now, and I learnt a lot during my time at Scarlets. I feel I have benefitted for that.”
