The
independent RaboDirect PRO12 disciplinary committee, chaired by Pamela Woodman,
sitting alongside Iain Goodall and Douglas Hunter (all Scotland), having viewed
video footage of the incident and listened to submissions by and on behalf of
the player, determined that the offence committed was at the top end of the
IRB's scale of seriousness. In reaching its decision, the committee took into
account aggravating factors, including the need for a deterrent for the type of
tackle, together with mitigating factors such as the player's previous good
record and conduct at the hearing.
