Ryan: We deserved to claim victory

06/12/2020

Boss Dean Ryan insisted his Dragons got the victory their performance fully deserved as they beat Glasgow Warriors in a heart-stopping finale in the Guinness PRO14.

Jared Rosser and Brok Harris grabbed tries and Sam Davies scored 13 points with the boot – but that was only half the story on a breathless night in Scotland.

Glasgow looked to have snatched the win with a try deep into injury time, only for the resulting conversion to hit the upright and bounce clear.

That ensured Dragons claimed a first win at Scotstoun Stadium since 2013 and back-to-back away wins in the league for the first time since. 2012.

“I’m delighted for the players because they worked so hard. They deserved it,” said Ryan. “I’m proud, not only at the effort but we are getting better at working out how to win games.

“I think that showed with things like Sam Davies taking that drop goal and we had a lot of pressure and control in the second half.

“We did enough in that game, had enough field position and were accurate when we needed to be.

“Sometimes you get what you work for and tonight was one of those nights.

“It is always tough when someone else makes a mistake, but I thought we did enough to win that game.”

Next up for Dragons is the Heineken Champions Cup and a home clash with English Premiership giants Wasps at Rodney Parade.

And Ryan is eager for his team to enjoy the result in Scotland before looking ahead to the European challenge.

“We couldn’t go in off a more solid performance platform,” he smiled.

“It’s just a shame we can’t have a few beers tonight to celebrate this success.

“We’ll get the boys back from Wales and work out what we are going to do next week. Now it’s important we celebrate the successes and enjoy this result.”
