Catalyst Wainwright set for return

02/12/2021

Boss Dean Ryan has revealed ‘catalyst’ Wales international Aaron Wainwright is set to return for the United Rugby Championship clash with Glasgow Warriors.

Wainwright - who started at number eight against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia - missed the defeat to Edinburgh as he was rested after his exertions with Wales in the Autumn Nations Series.

However, the dynamic back row is ready to return at Scotstoun Stadium alongside lock Will Rowlands who is also available for selection.

Ryan has also confirmed Taine Basham, forced off early against Edinburgh, will sit out the trip to Scotland as planned after playing the full 80 minutes in all four autumn Tests.

“It's always fantastic to have Aaron back. To see him arrive and rejuvenate the pace is great news,” said Ryan.

“Aaron is a catalyst for things happening around him. His energy sparks opportunities around him and galvanises everybody else.

“We are pleased to see him back because our game looked a little bit off as we went through the motions. It's the likes of Aaron, Taine and Ross Moriarty that can bring it alive.”

Meanwhile, Dragons will continue to be without hooker Elliot Dee for the away trip.

“Elliot is still not in contention because of ongoing ankle problems which we thought had been resolved,” added Ryan.

“He went back into camp for the Australia because of the challenges that Wales faced and aggravated it again. We are trying to get to the bottom of it and get him fit.”
