Griffiths returns as Dyer starts

12/03/2021

Back row Ollie Griffiths returns to the starting line-up as Dragons head to the Welsh capital to face Ulster Rugby in the Guinness PRO14 on Saturday evening (kick-off 7.35pm).

Dynamic forward Griffiths will make his first appearance since December as Director of Dragons Rugby, Dean Ryan, makes three changes to his team for the clash at Principality Stadium.

Griffiths plays at openside with Harrison Keddie switching to blindside and Ross Moriarty moving into the Number Eight jersey.

Scrum half Rhodri Williams is recalled to captain the side while the final change sees exciting young wing Rio Dyer named out wide. Ashton Hewitt misses the game through injury.

Wales international Nick Tompkins is selected among the replacements while there is also a potential return for lock Matthew Screech.

Dragons will be playing the first of three games in Cardiff to conclude the Guinness PRO14 season and boss Ryan is fully aware of what lies ahead.

“It’s a huge challenge first up against Ulster,” he said. “The Irish sides all play slightly different, but they all have a huge amount of physicality in their game.

“We struggled out in Belfast earlier this season, we can’t hide away from that, so we need to be much better and show we have learnt that from experience.

“It’s a big test for us to keep momentum going, but we were really pleased with the performance last weekend against Ospreys and now it is about backing it up.”
