Ryan praise for Welsh aces

01/11/2019

Boss Dean Ryan has hailed the performances of Aaron Wainwright, Ross Moriarty and Elliot Dee in the Rugby World Cup.

The Dragons trio have all impressed as Wales finished the tournament in Japan in fourth place.

Ryan is now looking forward to the three aces returning to Rodney Parade – but admits they will need time to recover from an emotional and physically draining period with the national set-up.

“I think all three of them have done Dragons immensely proud and we are all very supportive of them,” said Ryan.

“To play at the highest level of the game, and be able to influence it, is full credit to them.

“You have to remember that they have been going since April or May so it is important that they get the right amount of rest and they come back in fresh and looking to contribute,” he added.

“It’s been a long summer for them, a lot of training and an emotional time when you are involved with such high-pressure games.

“They have a new coaching team and new people to impress and I have only met them once in a golf club.

“I am looking forward to seeing them and them helping us with what we are trying to achieve here.

“Both Arron (Wainwright) and Ross (Moriarty), towards the end, have played a reasonable amount. They will be back, but they also have the Barbarians game, so they will return roughly around that window

“With Elliot (Dee), we will be in constant conversations with Wales about when they see the right time for him to come back in.”

Meanwhile, Ryan has insisted he will not put any deadline on a return to action for lock Cory Hill, who was forced to pull out of the Rugby World Cup through injury.

“Cory is in great shape, he is here and he is working hard. But there is no point in trying to pull forward any return by a couple of weeks,” he said.

“We’ve got to get Cory right and almost like him past being right so that he is ready and looking to contribute here.

“It’s good to have him here. He is a good steadying influence and we’ve got him involved in some of the calling stuff and support. It’s great to have him around.”
